Abstract
Medium-sized academic libraries have been experimenting with the use of paraprofessionals in reference services for over twenty years. The University of Dayton participated in the Wisconsin-Ohio Reference Evaluation Program (WOREP) in 1988 and in 1997, one year after implementing a reference model using paraprofessionals. The factors influencing the development of a new model of reference, a description of the model, training procedures, and the evaluation results are described.
