Abstract
This paper presents the application of an educational activity for K-12 students, aligned with the National Common Curricular Base, which explores Automata Theory through Graph Grammar. Formal Methods, important in complex systems, promote skills such as abstraction, analysis, and critical thinking, which are essential for 21st-century students. Despite the growing interest in Computing Education, formal specifications, part of Formal Methods, remain underexplored. Thus, this activity focused on Deterministic Finite Automata aims to bridge this gap. A pilot experiment with a group of students was conducted, and the results indicated that the students not only understood the concepts related to automata but also successfully manipulated the grammars with the tool used.
