Abstract

—β-Eucryptite (LiAlSiO4) crystallizes in a quartz-like structure with Li+-ions arranged in structure main channels parallel to the crystallographic c-axis. This crystallographic arrangement and an order-disorder phase transition of the Li+-ions stimulated ionic conductivity measurements along the direction of the c-axis. LiAlSiO4 monocrystals of high quality have been synthesized by a flux technique. Total conductivity as well as partial electronic conductivity of β-Eucryptite have been measured parallel and perpendicular to the crystallographic main axis. From the anisotropy of the total conductivity we conclude that β-Eucryptite is a real one-dimensional Li+-ionic conductor.
