Abstract
The scope of this chapter is to examine the EU performance in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly vis-à-vis the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In doing so, we will attempt to: (1) study how the EU has developed a certain set of principles over the years regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; (2) spot how it transfers the decided intra-EU positions to the international level (in this case, to the UN General Assembly) and (3) identify the parameters of the EU’s coherent action via the investigation of EU behaviour concerning two specific UN General Assembly resolutions pertaining to the conflict: one associated with the Goldstone Report, and the second with regard to the upgrade of the status of Palestine. Our findings suggest that, even though, in more general respects, the EU often attempts to be visible as a coherent diplomatic global actor, its performance typically depends on the particular preferences of individual EU Member States.
