Abstract

This paper deals with ethnobotany of the Great Andamanese tribe. Brief accounts of Andaman geography, ethnology, and previous ethnobotanical studies are given. Plants used in everyday life, such as for bows and arrows, canoes, fibers, food, medicines, rituals, musical instruments, tools, and shelter, are described and discussed. Scientific and vernacular names, uses, and ethnobotanical importance are listed.
