Abstract
Abstract This article discusses four recent controversies in international collaborative research: the standard of care controversy, the obligation to provide ancillary care to clinical trial participants, the obligation to continue to provide trial interventions after completion of the research, and the requirement to be responsive to the health care needs of the host country. In each case the central positions and arguments in the debate are presented.
