Abstract

Spanish beef sector is the third in economic importance in our country behind the pig and dairy productions, in 2012. This represents 15.6% of the final livestock production. Galicia ranks third in beef production with 14% of the total produced in Spain. Beef farms are an important economic activity in Galicia, with great social and cultural significance. The national and international socio-economic situation has intensified changes in beef cattle farms, these adaptations began previously motivated by situations that conditioned the evolution of livestock sectors. But the industry has turned its efforts to adapt to the new environment, to face new problems and incorporating new technologies, structural improvements and productive to hold at the top from the point of view of competitiveness and efficiency. This context marks the beginning of this Research Study .I will try to get a value of efficiency to characterize the farms for the beef sector in Coast Lugo, of a representative sample of 50 farms. It will also analyze the income of farms, quantifying the benefit and observing the evolutionary trend from 2009 to 2012.
