Abstract

In this Paper, the wave-current forces on three kinds of inclined cylinder are measured, and the force coefficients CD and CM are estimated by a revised cross-spectrum method proposed in this Paper. In this method, the force coefficients are considered as constants over the frequency range and are estimated by the least squares method. From the experimental results, it is found that wave directions have an effect on CD and CM values. Following the analysis of the experimental results, two empirical formulae are presented which are used to transform CD and CM into unified force coefficients C′D and C′M. By comparing C′D and C′M with published results for vertical cylinders, it is found that the unified force coefficients from this Paper are consistent with the results obtained by others.
