Abstract

Random wave current forces on vertical slender cylinders are investigated in this paper. An appropriate definition of the KC number is given. By using the Morison equation, the force exerted on a cylinder by both irregular waves and current is analysed. Based on model test data and the mean square error method, the relationship between drag force coefficient Cd, inertia force coefficient Cm, lift force coefficient (CL)max, (CL)1/3 and KC number is also given in this presentation. The relationship of characteristic lift force value with characteristic inline force in wave-current coexisting field is discussed.
