Abstract

The current capacity of electricity production by renewable sources in Iran is 660, and 420 MW is under construction. The wind power plants are responsible for more than 40% of total renewable electricity production. One of the substantial advantages of utilising renewable energies is job creation. In this study, the employment information is collected from Iranian wind power plants. Then, collected information is compared with the result of another research carried out at Kahak wind power plant. After that, direct and indirect job coefficients are calculated and compared with previous studies. Thereafter, using the statistical data of electricity consumption from 1967 to 2016, the required electricity generation capacity in 2050 is predicted. Finally, three energy use scenarios are defined, and job creation rate by wind energy is calculated. Based on the results, it is realised that 3 million direct and indirect jobs will be created if only 2.5% of the nominal capacity is allocated to the wind power plants in 2050.
