Abstract

Shear horizontal surface acoustic wave (SH-SAW) sensors fabricated on 36 degree-rotated Y-cut X-propagating LiTaO/sub 3/ can detect the electrical properties of liquid samples with high sensitivity. In order to determine the type and concentration of an ionic solution, we have utilized a liquid flow system with the SH-SAW sensor. In this paper, we have developed a flow sensing system to determine molar concentrations of a binary mixture solution. The database obtained from the transient responses is used in the pattern recognition technique. In experiments, mixture solutions of BaCl/sub 2/ and HCl are used as one example. The estimated results correspond to the actual values. Moreover preliminary investigation to estimate molar concentration of a ternary mixture ionic solution of BaCl/sub 2/, HCl, and NaCl has been also done by using a flow sensing system and a result is presented.
