Abstract

The effect of Prandtl number on the heat transfer characteristics of a bayonet tube is studied numerically using air (Pr=0.7), water (Pr=2.61) and ethylene glycol (Pr=40.36). Reynolds number is varied over the laminar and transitional range 350 < Re < 2625. Behaviour is explained using previous hydraulic and thermal studies. The effect is successfully described by an empirical correlation.
