Abstract

In this abstract, a new approach to calculate the anisotropic parameters from walkaway VSP data is presented. A global optimization technique based on genetic algorithms is used to estimate the normal move-out (NMO) velocity and the non-hyperbolic parameter from a three-term NMO approximation. Then, interval anisotropic parameters are calculated. The test results of this algorithm on several NMO approximations are presented.
