Abstract

α-Sulfo fatty acid methyl esters are representing an interesting class of anionic surfactants based on oleochemical raw materials. Although the conversion of methyl esters with gaseous SO 3 is one of the best known oleochemical reactions, there is only little experience on the field of sulfonation of higher fatty acid esters. Therefore, subject of the investigations has been the sulfonation of saturated fatty acid alkyl esters based on alcohols with 2 or more carbon atoms
