Abstract

Objective To establish C6 rat hrainstem glioma model to provide a platform of animal experiment for the research of brainstem gliomas. Method 1×10~6 C6 glioma cells were injected stereotactically into rat brainstem (pons) exactly. 2 weeks after implantation, MRI scan was performed to observe the growth of tumors, then the rats with tumors were perfused with 4% paraformaldehyde and the braiustems were sectioned and inspected. The sections were stained by H&E. Results Tumors were found in the brainstems which were confirmed by MRI scan with a low T1 and high T2 signals, and were enhanced obviously. There was no extraeranial growth of tumor. H&E stains confirmed that the tumor was glioblastoma. The growth was invasive, the new vessels were plentiful, and the palisade-like necrosis was obvious. Conclusions C6 rat brainstem glioma model can be established safely, steadily and repeatedly with a high tumorigenic rate, which can be confirmed by pathology and MRI scan.
