Abstract

The essential oil of the needles of Abies nephrolepis Maxim from China was isolated by hydrodistillation in a yield of 3.6% (v[sol ]w). The chemical composition of the essential oil was examined by GC and GC–MS; 47 components, representing 94.5% of the oil, were identified. The major components were elemol (14.8%), sabinyl acetate (14.7%), β-thujone (7.4%), sabinene (7.0%), α-fenchone (6.2%), α-terpinyl acetate (4.5%) and bornyl acetate (4.1%).
