Abstract

ABSTRACTEssential oils of the leaves and flowers of Phlomis cypria and P. brevibracteata were isolated by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC and Gas chromatography - mass spectroscopy (GC-MS), simultaneously. Essential oil yields of the four samples ranged between 0.07% and 0.09% (v/w). The essential oils of leaves (L) and flowers (F) of P. brevibracteata were found to be rich in β-caryophyllene (L: 21.9%, F: 24.2%) and caryophyllene oxide (L: 26.0%, F: 7.2%). Main constituents of the essential oils of P. cypria leaves (L) and flowers (F) were determined as β-caryophyllene (L: 37.4%, F: 20.8%) and germacrene D (L: 47.7%, F: 17.2%).
