Abstract
Essential carboxyl residues were identified in the active site of an endo- β-1,4-xylanase isolated from Trichoderma longibrachiatum. Tryptophan residues were implicated in catalysis but were not essential for activity. Tyrosine residues were not involved in catalysis.
