Abstract

This article aims at analyzing the process of spatialization and territorialization of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) in a spatiality mainly characterized by the homogenization of the agricultural landscape and territorial monopoly engendered by the agro-industrial capital, in the region of Ribeirao Preto (SP), between the years 1998 to 2012, having as main reference the actions of occupation of large estates with high environmental liability, belonging to the sugarcane industry, and public areas collected by the state government auction, coming from tax debt, but remained illegally used by sugarcane agribusiness occupations engendered by the social movement as a primary modality of peasant struggle for access and democratization of land ownership in the country. For this purpose, we recorded the actions of land occupations led by the movement in this spatiality as well as the number of families in the process of occupation, these data being related to the creation of new projects of rural settlements by state agencies responsible for the implementation of land reform in the state of Sao Paulo (INCRA and ITESP) and the number of families settled in this region. Keywords: MST; Ribeirao Preto region; Agroindustrial capital; Occupationprocesses; Agrarian reform.
