Abstract
A very rare manifestation of reflux esophagitis that has only been reported once is the development of a symptomatic esophageal fibrous septum (1). This septum completely divides the esophagus, resulting in the appearance of a double-lumen esophagus on endoscopy. The previous case report of this problem was successfully treated with esophageal dilation using bougienage on several sessions. We report a second case of a symptomatic midesophageal septal band, caused by severe reflux esophagitis, that failed treatment with guidewire dilation. In our report, this tissue band was treated successfully by transection with hot biopsy forceps. We have sequential endoscopic photographs that show the persistence of this band despite the macroscopic resolution of esophagitis with pharmacotherapy.
