Abstract

A novel error controlling optical receiver is proposed. The receiver is characterised by the diverse detection of a dual-mode signal, error detection by ‘consensus’ logic, error control by bit-by-bit threshold selection, and analogue electric summation. A demonstration shows that the receiver provides 4/10 dB gain without/with 7% standard FEC, respectively.
