Abstract

This paper analyzes the status of climate change communication, its challenges and opportunities in Nepal. Climate change is observed in the form of rise in temperature, change in rainfall pattern, unfavorable weather phenomena and increase in frequency of natural disasters. Nepal is the 4th most vulnerable country in the world due to its high altitudinal variation, geology, unique ecological system, rugged topography, nature dependent livelihood and poverty. There is an urgent need to access situation of climate change communication in Nepal which could be helpful in developing new researches, projects and programmes for effective communication in the future. With an objective to assess the role of different organization in climate change communication in Nepal, this paper is prepared through literature review of the researches and publications in climate change issues in Nepal. Different tools and techniques were applied by different organizations for climate change communication and adaptation. There are different technical, linguistic, financial and logistic challenges in implementing climate change communication programmes. Climate change communication and adaptation would be successful if it is implemented by taking local preferences and local resources. It is recommended to consider local manpower, local language and local resources for effective climate change communication.
