Abstract
An essential aspect of tribology and lubrication technology is the question of the relationships and the predicbildility of phenomena of the interaction of lubricants with metal surfaces. Investigations (presented at the 58th Tribology Symposium) showed that only a different, especially mechanical, pretreatment of metal surfaces (C-steel) could lead to significantly different tribological results. New results show a decided relationship between the metal surfaces in the tribological contact and the molecular structure of the lubricant additives. It was also possible to clarify which concentration of certain additives is necessary to cover metal surfaces.
