Abstract

Psychological resilience is defined as a person's ability to overcome problems in the face of difficult living conditions. During the Covid-19 pandemic, which is a rare epidemic period, in addition to emotional turmoil in adolescence, the period when development is the fastest, adolescents faced situations such as online education, curfews, loss of relatives, fear of getting sick. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of fear of Covid-19 and the psychological resilience levels of adolescents. Adolescents are aged 14-18 were included in the study, which was conducted with the relational screening method. To determine adolescents' fear of Covid-19, the "Covid-19 Fear Scale" adapted to Turkish culture by Seller et al. (2020), and psychological resilience was evaluated by the "Psychological Resilience Scale" adapted to Turkish by Durak (2002). The study was conducted with a total of 45 adolescents, 28 girls, and 17 boys, between the ages of 14-18. Adolescents' Covid-19 fear levels, family support (r= -0.124; p=0.002), peer support (r=-0.185; p=0.002), determination to struggle (r=-0.235; p=0.00) and empathy ( r=-0.256; p=0.00) sub-dimensions were found to be negatively correlated. It was determined that there was a negative significant relationship between the fear of Covid-19 and the total resilience score (r=-0.563; p=0.00). In line with the findings of the study, it is seen that family support, peer support, determination to struggle, and empathy are effective in the Covid-19 fear levels of adolescents. It can be a guide for professionals working with adolescents in supporting the psychological resilience of adolescents in unexpected situations. Mixed design studies can be planned by expanding the sample in future studies. Keywords: Adolescence, Fear of Pandemic, Resilince
