Abstract

Background: The Estimated Post Transplant Survival (EPTS) score is calculated based on age, the presence of diabetes mellitus, years on dialysis, and prior organ transplant. The EPTS score has not been validated in Argentina. Objective: To apply and assess the EPTS score in Argentinian population of deceased-donor kidney transplants. Materials and Methods: In this observational retrospective cohort study we included all deceased-donor kidney transplants in recepients older than 18 years from January, 2008 until december, 2016. All patients were followed from the day of trasplant until their death or last follow up on january 2019. Baseline recipients characteristics were obtained from the National procurement and transplantation registry in Argentina, SINTRA (Sistema Nacional de Información de Procuración y Trasplante de la República Argentina). Kaplan Meier curves and Long-Rank test were used for survival estimation. Results: 8075 transplants were included. Median age was 50, 10% diabetics, median dialysis time was 6 years and 5 % had a prior organ transplant (Table 1). Each quintile increases of EPTS, patient survival time diminishes (p <0.0001) (graph 1).Table 1.: Baseline Characteristics of Transplant Recipients by ETPS quartile. Conclusion: The EPTS score is a useful tool for establishing survival in adult in our population recipients of deceased-donor kidney transplants. We expect that this tool may assist with appropriate recipient selection for all kidneys from deceased donors in Argentina.
