Abstract

Angiomyolipoma is an uncommon benign soft tissue tumour with high prevelance amonst patients with tuberus sclerosis. The tumour typically occurs in kidney with a female predominance. Tuberus sclerosis is a genetic condition defined by tuber formations in the brain as well as multiple extra-cerebral manifestations. Epithelioid variants of angiomyolipoma rarely can metastasise. This tumour consists of sheets of spindled or epithelioid cells with abundant cytoplasm intermixed with adipose tissue in a prominent vascular stroma. Here I present a case of metastasising angiomyolipoma of kidney to lung in a patient with history of tuberous sclerosis. The histological and immunohistochemical features of this tumour will be discussed followed by review of the literature on this fascinating entity.
