Abstract
We argue that communication is a theme of growing confusion among those interested in its theoretical reflection and categorical clarification, to the extent that the claims to convert it into key of an autonomous disciplinary science, supported by some Brazilian scholars, ignore its character and meaning as a tool for thinking. Epistemology in communication studies has nothing that will be singular to them, and for this, every time it aims at this kind of goal, it succumbs into an abstract petition because not only this search is indifferent towards the practice of research effectively exercised in the field but also and above all, it ignores the propositional limits of the concept of communication.
