Abstract

Epilepsy is a tendency to experience srepeated seizures, and diagnosis is based on the information provided by the person who experiences seizures and witness accounts. This paper includes a case study that focuses on issues that influence prescribing for women of child-bearing age, highlighting the many challenges for the non-medical prescriber, i.e. establishing accurate diagnosis, understanding epilepsy syndromes and treatment options. Key issues such as teratogenic potential of antiepileptic medication and interactions with the combined oral contraceptive pill are explored.
