Abstract

Abstract A possible involvement of aluminium in Alzheimer's disease is suggested by its involvement in other diseases and by brain aluminium being increased in Alzheimer's cases. Epidemiology is difficult because both disease and past exposure cannot easily be measured. Few studies have been conducted so far, with no convincing relationships seen. Larger carefully conducted studies are needed. Unless it can be shown aluminium in water is particularly bioavailable, it seems more useful to study other sources with greater exposure. Thus follow‐up of past ulcer patients with high antacid use and consequent aluminium intake seems a promising approach.
