Abstract

Introduction: syphilis is still a relevant public health problem, since syphilis affects a large and significant number of pregnant women worldwide, associated with a significant number of fetal and neonatal deaths, in addition to cases of risk of premature death. Objective: to evaluate the prevalence, temporal evolution and geographic distribution of gestational syphilis in Brazil between 2019 and 2023, as well as analyze the sociodemographic profile of affected pregnant women and the clinical and therapeutic aspects of cases of associated congenital syphilis. Methods: the study is ecological and addresses the panorama of gestational syphilis in Brazil, based on the analysis of data reported to the Notifiable Diseases Information System and the Department of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Viral Hepatitis, and Sexually Transmitted Infections of the Health Surveillance Secretariat. Results: during the period from 2019 to 2023, the Gestational Syphilis prevalence was 324,683 cases, with 2023 having the lowest rate (11%) and 2022 having the highest rate (26%). Conclusion: public health measures, better screening and campaigns for adherence to treatments are some of the main interventions needed to combat the disease in Brazil.
