Abstract
Congenital high airways obstruction syndrome (CHAOS) refers to a rare, often lethal, congenital laryngotracheal condition and is primarily characterised by obstruction to the fetal upper airway. CHAOS some authors consider this as synonymous with tracheal atresia although the syndrome can occur with a tracheal stenosis or laryngeal atresia/stenosis. We report a case of a 34-year-old pregnant women (G1P0) who was referred to our centre at 20 gestational week for an anomalous scan. The ultrasound examination of the fetus revealed the following changes: hyperechogenic, enlarged lungs, mesocardia and compression of the fetal heart, ascites, olygohydramnios, hepatomegaly and fetal grow restriction. Given the bad prognosis for the fetus, the parents choose, that pregnancy was terminated. The necropsy confirmed the presence of stenosis of the upper third of the trachea, lungs were increased in volume, in the right lobe of the liver there were additional lobules.
