ENVIRONMENTAL SECURITY IN THE CONTEXT SOCIAL ACCEPTABILITY

Abstract

Purpose. The topic of the article has been identified by objective need for scientific justification of strategy of sustainable development. The author reviewed main stages of formation of the concept of global environmental security over the past half century, specified their most significant results and extended the philosophical definition of the category of “environmental security”. Methodology. Working on this article, the author relied on the conceptual provisions of the ideology of the ecological imperative, co-evolution and systematic approach. Results. Since the mid 70’s of the last century, the paradigm of safe environmental development of the society has dominated as an alternative to traditional economic growth. The content of the concept “environmental security” is disclosed through the interdependent and dialectical unity of human security and environmental security. The formation of the concept of global environmental security is discussed in the logical-historical perspective, four major steps have been identified. The contents of the concept “environmental security” is revealed through the interdependence and dialectical unity of human security and environmental security in terms of social tolerance. Practical implications. The conclusions suggested by the author can be used to form a holistic theoretical and methodological ensuring of ecological concepts of social development.
