Abstract
Eosinophils are present in normal human intestinal mucosa, where their main functions are presumably participation in hypersensitivity reactions and defense against helminthic infestations. However, these numbers are increased in inflammatory bowel disease (1) and other conditions (2) not normally associated with allergic states or paresitosis, and their role in these disorders is unknown. Therefore, we enumerated these cells in mucosal suspensions, measured their Fc and C3b receptors and assayed their phagocytic activity.KeywordsInflammatory Bowel DiseasePhagocytic ActivityBlood EosinophilAllergic StateColonic NeoplasmThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
