Abstract
The present research is inserted in the questioning concerning the phenomenon of the solidarity economy. From the analysis of documents relating to the Esperanca/Cooesperanca Project, which gathers diverse associations and cooperatives of the solidarity economy in the city of Saint Maria (Rio Grande do Sul State), we seek to identify the evaluative hierarchies that underlie the justification of associations and cooperatives of the solidarity economy as well as the rhetoric used to transmit these values. This study concludes that the solidarity economy has a justification of its own that builds on a critique of the capitalist system. In this sense, it builds its own principles and presents itself as a social transformation project for the economy. It is noted, however, that the solidarity economy is embedded in what is called “hybridization of the economy”: it mixes elements of a monetary, non-monetary and redistributive economy, which allows to understand it as a set of economic practices marked by plurality. In this way, the solidarity economy is not an economy without market, but with a market based on values and principles diff erent from liberal ideas. Nas décadas finais do século XX, a América Latina sofreu influência direta das decisões de caráter neoliberal que trouxeram como consequências a quebra e fechamento de um grande número de pequenas empresas que eram responsáveis por grande parte do trabalho empregado. Como reação ao contexto e sistema vigente, surgiram diversos movimentos sociais e trabalhistas que buscaram construir alternativas voltando-se para práticas econômicas onde a produção e a distribuição se orientavam para um processo de emancipação do trabalho e reversão do então quadro de vulnerabilidade social. O presente trabalho se insere na discussão da justificação dos grupos sociais, mais especificamente, aquela que subjaz às iniciativas econômico-solidárias, tomando como objeto o discurso das cooperativas e associações de economia solidária da cidade de Santa Maria (RS, Brasil). Inicialmente proporemos uma genealogia do conceito de solidariedade, buscando distinguir suas formulações sociológicas e ético-normativas, para, em seguida, adentrar na discussão acerca dos regimes de justificação, mais especificamente, aquele que diz respeito a uma gramática da economia solidária. Introduzimos as questões empíricas referentes à experiência da cidade de Santa Maria, buscando dar conta dos elementos ideológicos e normativos presentes em seu discurso
