Abstract

This article investigates the effect of different hydrodynamic and geometric parameters on the entrainment of liquid from direct-flow valve trays with baffles. The entrainment of liquid was measured by using a methylene blue solution at a concentration of 2.4 g/liter as an indicator. Finds that the relative entrainment of liquid in direct-flow valve trays with baffles is approximately half compared to sieve and bubble-cap trays. The direct-flow valve tray with baffles has higher relative entrainment compared to jet trays and sieve trays with baffles. However, the direct-flow valve tray is a potentially improved modification of the valve tray which has better operating characteristics, wider range of stable operation, and considerably higher capabilities for loading with 2 phases.
