Abstract
A case of successful replantation of a totally avulsed scalp in a 26-year-old woman is presented. Bilateral superficial temporal vessels and one postauricular vein were anastomosed by two teams of surgeons in 10.5 hours. The post-operative course was smooth except for partial necrosis of the occipital scalp, which was severely damaged during the injury. With reviewing the successful experiences in scalp replantation, the key factors to success in scalp replantation are considered to be the short ischemic time, proper selection and adequate debridement of the vessels to be repaired, and the use of interpositional vein grafts if necessary.
