Abstract

This paper presents an improvement to the efficiency of Two Level Multipoint Approximation Method (TMA) for structure optimization by means of move limits definition. A move limit strategy, which was initially presented by Bloebaum, C. L., can efficiently enhance robustness of the method especially for the achievement of gauge (least) values of design variables in truss structures. Method’s capability has been exploited for assigning a different move limit to each design variable based upon statistical distribution of effectiveness coefficients. This paper suggests an improved version of TMA as well as an improved definition of highest value of move limit for least heuristic definition of move limits.
