Abstract

ABSTRACTAn efficient study is performed to modify the propagation characteristics of Bragg waveguide using plasma filled core. The proposed Bragg waveguide consists of a low index central region having plasma surrounded by a large number of periodic cladding layers of dielectric with alternating high and low refractive indices. The effect of plasma filled core of proposed waveguide on chromatic dispersion, radiation loss, and effective area is studied. This analysis shows that introducing plasma in the core region of proposed waveguide is a key to achieve higher effective area with small radiation loss. Hence, a trade‐off exists between low radiation loss and high effective area in the proposed waveguide. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 55:2491–2496, 2015
