Abstract

Thermal oxidation and oxygen boost diffusion were respectively applied on the rolled and unrolled titanium to improve the mechanical properties of titanium. After deep-rolling process, the gradient plastic deformation layer was generated. The deep-rolling technique speeded up the thermal oxidation of titanium. Rolled titanium exhibits a better hardening effect than unrolled titanium by thermal oxidation or oxygen boost diffusion treatment. By means of SEM, XRD and first-principles calculations, the oxygen diffusion mechanisms of rolled and unrolled titanium at different stages were quantitatively analyzed. Finally, the optimized processing parameters of oxygen boost diffusion treatment for titanium were proposed.
