Abstract

Discourse markers are briefly introduced. Then, using the concepts of denial and contrast, with modifications, English and Spanish contrastive discourse markers are first analyzed and then contrasted. It was found that they correspond remarkably closely in what they signal about the interpretation of the utterance they introduce.
