Abstract

This letter proposes analytical expressions to enforce stator and rotor current limits in DFIG-based wind turbine models using the DFIG capability curve (DFIG-CC)—DFIG stands for doubly-fed induction generator. Two other commonly used procedures to enforce limits are employed for comparison purposes. A 15-bus test system is used for simulations, which includes five wind turbine generators with plant-level controllers for both participation in frequency regulation through inertial response and voltage regulation. The results show that the proposed expressions are accurate and, unlike the commonly used procedures, they do not allow either significant over-current or significant underutilized reactive power for voltage regulation.
