Abstract

Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) or vasopressin secretion is regulated by changes in pressure, volume and osmolality. Neurohypophysis lesions may course with impaired ADH secretion. Diabetes insipidous is related to a fall of ADH secretion and the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of ADH, with excess in its action. On the other hand, there are no recognized clinical consequences of the defect in the production of oxytocin.
