Abstract

Metal halide perovskites are promising semiconductor photoelectric materials for solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and photodetectors; they are also applied in energy storage devices such as lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and photo-rechargeable batteries. Owing to their good ionic conductivity, high diffusion coefficients and structural superiority, perovskites are used as electrode for lithium-ion batteries. The study discusses role of structural diversity and composition variation in ion storage mechanism for LIBs, including electrochemistry kinetics and charge behaviors. Perovskite solar cells (PSCs)-integrated solar-rechargeable batteries are also discussed from the perspective of sustainable development; these batteries capture solar energy into batteries and convert to storable chemical energy in batteries. The integration strategies such as wire-connection and electrode-shared connection for PSCs-LIBs systems are reviewed in detail, and the overall energy conversion and storage efficiency still has enormous space for improvement. Finally, the existing challenges and future development directions in the research of metal halide perovskite application in energy storage are discussed.
