Abstract

ABSTRACT Afield study of seven 50,000 bird flocks was conducted to compare; (a) a windowless broiler house with an intermittent light program, and (b) a conventional broiler house with continuous low level light as energy effective technologies. Total annual brooding fuel was 21 percent lower for the windowless unit. In every trial, the birds in the windowless end reached a higher average weight and achieved superior feed conversion.
