Abstract

AbstractNon‐resonant interband Faraday rotation (FR) is measured in a‐As2S3 between 480 and 850 nm in a magnetic field up to 4 T at temperatures between 4 and 300 K. Analysis of the results by means of theoretical dispersion formulae reveals an energy gap EgFR of about 3.1 eV. This value is higher than the optical gap (2.36 eV) but is in agreement with the gap determined with dispersion measurements; from literature similar FR data are found for e‐Si where FR reveals a direct gap. The temperature influence is small. From 50 to 300 K, EgFR slowly diminishes, and has a constant value below 50 K.
