Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study evaluates the energy consumption of atria in hot and dry climate zones. The author used a research tool for simulation, ECOTECT software, and assigned regional climate conditions as a starting point. Then, the energy consumption was analysed by choosing a suitable atrium for energy efficiency in residential buildings. The analysis software of ECOTECT can provide a scientific basis for energy-saving planning of the buildings. To understand the optimization of residential building planning, factors such as hourly solar exposure, fabric gains, and energy distribution in building were analysed. This research in hot and dry climate was designed to use the optimum atrium in building for energy saving in warm seasons. According to an analysis performed using ECOTECT, it was revealed that the optimum atrium in building to keep in hot and dry climate is the four-side atrium with total radiation incident of 2,506,027 W, radiation absorption of 902,795 W, and radiation transmission of 297,118 W in hot summer. The results of this research are useful for energy efficiency of buildings and producing a comfortable living environment in future.
