Abstract

Retarding-field energy spectra have been obtained for low energy electrons scattered from [100] faces of NaCl and KCl. The results are in agreement with previous measurements of characteristic electron energy losses obtained at higher incident electron energies. No losses characteristic of surface states were observed. The need for small scattering angle experiments rather than the more usual hemispherical collector method is demonstrated.
