Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper provides the modeling and the power control for a Wind/Photovoltaic (PV) Hybrid System (HS) using Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG)-Direct Current (DC) link topology. Unlike the conventional DFIG connected to AC (Alternating current)-bus, the proposed DFIG-DC link topology employs a diode bridge rectifier to ensure the connection between the stator and the DC-link and a Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) to ensure the connection between the rotor and the DC-bus. First, the topology of DFIG-DC link is presented. Meanwhile, the DFIG output power is regulated using the field-oriented control (FOC). The standard tests EN 50530 are used to demonstrate the capabilities of the MPPT strategy. The performances of the proposed Wind/PV hybrid system using DFIG-DC link topology under different environmental conditions are investigated. The experimental results conducted for a 0.8 kW DFIG connected to the DC-Bus demonstrate that the proposed control strategy is highly efficient in terms of stability of the DC voltage and is maintaining close to the reference value adjusted to 500 V.
