Abstract

Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy plays a key role in the diagnosis and management of gastric ulceration, and is the only investigation that allows histology to distinguish benign from malignant disease. Therapeutic endoscopy is becoming increasingly important in the management of bleeding gastric ulcers, and further research in this field should provide insights into the most effective technique for reducing the mortality from this condition.
