Abstract
Introduction: Endoscopic necrosectomy has recently emerged as an alternative to surgery for the management of organized pancreatic necrosis (OPN), but often requires repeat sessions, nasocystic catheter irrigation and prolonged hospital stay. This is the first report of self-expandable metal stent (SEMS) placement as an adjunct to endoscopic debridement for the treatment of OPN. Aim: To evaluate the feasibility, safety and outcomes of temporary metal stent placement for the treatment of OPN. Material and Methods: Patients with symptomatic OPN treated with temporary SEMS from January to October 2008 were identified.
